Goal(s) :
Improve precision in pace variations and control over strides. Teach the horse to quickly adjust its stride length.
Process :
Place two poles along the long side at 18m intervals. On the center line, place 3 poles with no strides in between, requiring an extension (+3.3m). On one (or both!) short sides, set 3 poles with no strides in between at a standard spacing (3.3m for a horse). Go over the working canter poles and then along the long side. Count the strides. Then proceed over the center line. Turn left and repeat, asking for one more or one less stride on the long side, or even 2 strides for more advanced riders.
Difficulties :
Maintain relaxation despite rapid variations -> regular breaks to recover and calm down emotionally.
