What is the distance between ground poles and between obstacles?

Calculate automatically your distance between ground poles and your obstacles/cavalettis.

What is the distance between ground poles at the trot? Or how far should you set two obstacles apart for three canter strides? We have designed a tool that calculates it AUTOMATICALLY for you!

When riding alone, it's not uncommon to feel a moment of uncertainty when setting up your ground pole exercise. Thanks to our automatic calculation tool, we help you determine the correct distance between your ground poles based on the gait (walk, trot, canter), the discipline (ground poles or jumping), and the size of your mount (horse, pony, etc.).

Summary:

Note: The distances obviously vary depending on your training goals with your horse. If you want to work on collected distances, focusing on the back of your horse, as with our gymnastic line for jumping, you will need to shorten the distance, and conversely, if you want to lengthen the stride.

What are the distances between ground poles on the flat?

On the flat, the distance between your ground poles will vary depending on your horse's size, the gait you wish to work at, and the number of strides expected.

What are the distances between two obstacles at the canter based on the number of strides?

Distance entre deux obstacles

The distances between your ground poles and between two obstacles are different. Indeed, the approach and landing of the obstacle add an extra length.
Just like the distances between the ground poles, the distance to the obstacle varies depending on the stride length and, therefore, the size of the horse, and the number of strides.
However, you must also consider the landing and take-off before the obstacle:

What is the distance between ground poles at the trot? Or how far should you set two obstacles apart to achieve 3 canter strides? We have designed a tool that calculates it AUTOMATICALLY for you!

When riding alone, it's not uncommon to have a moment of uncertainty when setting up your ground pole exercise. Thanks to our automatic calculation tool, we help you determine the distance between your ground poles, based on the gait (walk, trot, canter), the discipline (ground poles or obstacles), and the size of your mount (horse, pony, etc.).

Note: When calculating your distance, pony jumps are an exception. In this case, you should use the "flat" calculation formula (around 3m for one stride).

Note: As a general rule, a large step represents 1 meter. If you're unsure of your stride, you can also count by the number of feet. Indeed, a size 39 foot measures 25cm, so 4 feet = 1 meter (a size 42 foot measures 27cm, while a size 37.5 foot measures 24cm).
