Maintain a steady rhythm in canter A simple pole exercise to help you focus on the essentials: rhythm. With a single ground pole, two 20 m lines on the ground (to be ridden in 5 or 6 strides depending on your horse) and a bounce, ride the sequence alternating between diagonal lines and the track. Your goal: find your horse’s natural canter… and keep it exactly the same from start to finish. No faster, no slower: just regular. 💡 Tip: try this exercise with music! A track that matches your horse’s canter will help you feel whether the tempo stays consistent. A real bonus to prepare for classes… sometimes even ridden to music 😉
