 Goal(s) :

Goal: This exercise helps improve the quality of the lines to the fences, the horse’s balance in the turns, and the rider’s accuracy. It also helps to develop a more regular canter rhythm and better anticipation of the turns. The cloverleaf is an excellent exercise to prepare for show jumping courses with numerous changes of direction.

 Process :

How to ride it: Three fences are set in a triangle, about 20 to 25 metres apart. The rider jumps the three fences in succession, riding smooth, flowing turns between each of them. The track then draws the three leaves of a clover. The exercise can be ridden in both directions in order to work equally on the right rein and the left rein.

 Difficulties :

Possible difficulties: ⚠️ Horse falling onto the inside shoulder in the turns. Loss of impulsion after landing. Turns that are too wide or too tight. Irregular canter between the fences. Rider looking at the fence just jumped instead of the next one.
