2 Cavalettis 4 Cones 1 Pole

Goal(s)

To have a horse with you on curves and transitions.

Process

Enter at a trot into the line of ground poles, transition to canter. Left hand or right hand on the circle, transition between the cones to trot, go over the ground pole and change rein (figure of 8). Between the cones, transition to canter, go over the ground poles and continue straight while working on the canter.

Difficulties

Having a horse that is responsive to transitions, that picks up the correct lead in canter. Be careful that the horse does not rush in changes of pace and curves. It is important to keep your horse bent correctly.

The aim is to use lateral work to achieve straightness, then proceed to jump the cavaletti, all while managing the horse's pace. This exercise develops straightness, lateral suppleness, accuracy of track, and quality of canter in front of a jump.
